When the “Dragon Ball Full Color” manga hit bookstores on 04 February 2013, Shueisha surprised many fans by releasing 20 digital volumes in a new “Color Edition” format on the same day. A later announcement noted the possibility of a future digital-only release for the beginning of the series, but no other additional details were provided at the time. It was eventually unveiled in December 2012 that Shueisha had indeed decided to move forward with the idea of a digitally colored release with the announcement of a tankōbon-sized “ Dragon Ball Full Color” release covering only the “Z”-era storyline. These “Monochrome Edition” releases were near-identical reprints of the original gray scaled tankōbon volumes published between 19, although with a reduced purchase price (¥368, or ¥350 plus tax).
